I found myself in a cold sweat last year, struggling to haul a giant bag of towels up the stairs. It was 10pm on a Tuesday night, and I was still working on getting this darn rental property ready. The truth was that I had no idea what I was doing, and the only way to make myself feel better was to “stay busy”. The problem with any type of fear is that you can’t out run it, out work it, out maneuver it. I was feebly hoping that by “working hard”, I could at least show my husband that I tried my best, even if it was a flop. I was able to find some information by googling and asking a few friends. But as the opening date crept closer, I was acutely aware of how much I didn’t know. To be honest, I was terrified. I knew my rental would be a flop if I didn’t get good reviews, and I had spent enough time on the internet to know that people can be unforgiving if not cruel. Fast forward to one year later, I can confidently say that I have learned the answers to all those questions I had. I truly enjoy running my vacation rental business and I even managed to earn a superhost rating from Airbnb.
